Photographs are an incredible way of preserving history. Sure, they might immortalize the unsavory aspects of your past, like the chipped tooth in your adolescence that impaired a perfect smile, a teenage bout of acne that sprouted insecurities, and a transitory battle with weight gain, braces, or psoriasis but everyone agrees that memories are invaluable – especially to the future generation whose society just might thrive on the foundation laid by their predecessors. Each of these vintage photos will give you a front-row, all-access pass to valuable moments that forge the framework of history – you’ll certainly be glad you saw these.
Going Out With A Splash – 1995
It is often said that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. So, even though 1995 was supposed to be the year of Robert Overacker’s legendary, good-will dare-devil stunt, it brought the California stunt school graduate to his tragic end. Overacker was looking to leave a legacy for his protégées as well as raise awareness of homelessness in his community and chose to jump off a jet-ski, parachuting 180 feet over the infamous Niagra fall. Sadly, his chute never opened, and all 2,000-3,000 of his spectators watched him plunge to his death.
Murder By Nature – 2006
Death because of an accident happens even to our beloved celebrities. Steve Irwin's fatal encounter with a stingray in September 2006 was an accident that cannot be forgotten. The Australian-born TV host was known for his relentless love for animals and his willingness to mortgage his safety on their account. So when the famed 'Crocodile Hunter' was struck by a stingray while filming his reality TV show in 2006, it came as a shock, but as no surprise. Irwin would have either died doing what he loved or not died at all.
I.G’s Final Day – 1997
The year was 1997 and Notorious B.I.G was at the height of his rap career – and this photo with his hands draped around fellow rapper Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs in this photograph is a testament to his success so far. Sadly, it would be one of his final happy memories, since the rapper was gunned down by a sniper on his way back to his hotel in Los Angeles, California shortly thereafter. The murder was never fully resolved, but nine years later, his mother Voletta Wallace slammed the LAPD with a wrongful death claim, citing their reluctance to produce a suspected assailant.
One Deadly Climb – 2015
Dr. Jamie Zimmerman was at the height of her career as a caring mindfulness ambassador and ABC's news doctor and reporter when she took an ill-fated vacation to the famous Hawaiian island, Kauai. The 31-year-old posed for this picture on the short of the Lumahai river, which happened to be her last as she was swept away by the torrent while trying to make it to the other side of the shore. The lifeguard’s attempt at disaster recovery proved futile, and by the end of the day, Zimmerman lay lifeless in a nearby hospital.
Honeymoon Tragedy – 2003
In a tragic turn of events, American newlyweds, Tina and David Watson, became the center of a mild media frenzy when a scuba diving accident while on their honeymoon, left David an inadvertent widower. While the coroner determined that the 26-year-old woman died as a result of drowning, her husband’s immediate request for her life insurance policy payout as well as other claims, led the deceased family and insurance company to suspect foul play. By 2009, David Watson was arraigned and convicted of manslaughter on account of his complacency during his wife’s drowning.
Luxury-Travel Mishap
It should have been just another day in the life of the rich and slightly ostentatious if this private plane didn’t take a tragic nose-dive almost as soon as it took off. Given the circumstances surrounding its crash, however, it is easy to imagine that some foul play was involved, especially since private planes (and the people on board them) often pay an insurance premium and are worth a mind-blogging amount in life insurance. But if this cannot be verified, then it is nothing but mere baseless speculation.
One Final Hike - 2014
If Izumi Noguchi knew what horror awaited him at the top of Mount Ontake, he would have passed on the chance to take a hike on September 27, 2014. The 59-year-old and a company of other Japanese-born hikers were no strangers to the mountain but were oblivious of the active volcano which sat on its pinnacle. While on the trail of the summit, and just after taking one final photograph, Noguchi (and others) were greeted by a volcanic eruption that charred their bodies to near disintegration. The accident has so far been considered one of the most deadly in volcanic eruption history.
Happily Never After - 2014
Collette Moreno and Ashley Theobald had spent a significant part of 2013 and much of 2014 planning Collette’s wedding. It was all coming to a head and with the big day only a month away, the bride and her maid of honor decided to wrap things up with a final pre-wedding party in Kansas City. However, the pair would never make it to Kansas. In a bid to dodge a smoky pick-up truck, Theobald would have a head-on collision with a 1999 Dodge Ram, and her friend would be killed instantly. Typically, the family of the deceased would be entitled to a lawsuit settlement, but given the nature of their relationship, the 26-year-old only faced minor traffic charges easily tackled by her car accident attorney. In truth, the death of her friend was clearly punishment enough.
Hot-wired Balloon - 2012

New Zealand's Carterton is no doubt, a breathtaking view, and when five couples and a pilot boarded a hot-air balloon to take in the sight in early 2012, they didn’t expect to be anything short of pleased. Sadly, these 11 people never made it back to the ground. Shortly before landing, their balloon hit a high-voltage live wire, instantly electrocuting the vessel and eventually setting it ablaze in mid-air. Surprisingly, rather than raising awareness about making informed safety decisions, what followed the tragic accident was a slew of court proceedings to determine whether or not pictures of the ill-fated balloon in mid-air flames should be released. So much for priorities.
A Fatal Leap – 2014
If Maqsood Khan thought that September 14, 2014, would be just another day in his life, then he would have been thoroughly disappointed by the end of the day - not that he had the chance though. The 20-year-old was watching the Tigers at the India New Delhi zoo when he somehow fell into the enclosure and ended up face to face with a 200-pound white tiger. Over the next few hours, Khan would pray and plead for his life as the animal mercilessly dragged him around the enclosure, eventually killing him. While it is unclear if it was a deliberate jump, his parents eventually explained that their son had recently developed a curiosity for tigers, which they didn’t imagine he would mortgage his life for. Sadly, they couldn't be more wrong.
Fast & Fatally Furious - 2013

When Paul Walker began making a fortune off the Fast & the Furious franchise, he probably imagined that if he died in a car accident, it would be on the set of his production. Ironically, he was neither on set nor behind the wheel in the fatal crash that claimed his life; and given its severity, the actor barely stood a chance. Two years after the crash, his daughter, Meadow Walker and her car accident attorney filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Porsche, claiming that the manufacturer's safety oversight caused the death of the actor. Clearly, Walker left a legacy of strength and maturity for his daughter to follow.
Swept Away With The Falls - 2011
In the background of this photograph, a young Japanese student is seconds away from her death. Ayano Tokumasu had been visiting the United States when she took a trip to the famous Niagara Falls and was so enthralled by its sight that she climbed over the railings to get a better view and take a few photographs. It was while climbing back over the railing that the 20-year-old lost her footing and fell to her death, much to the horror of bystanders. Having climbed over the railings on her own volition, Tokumasu’s family could not request a wrongful death lawsuit settlement, and other than a possible life insurance payout, all they had left was the lifeless body of their promising young daughter.
A Freeway Debacle - 2014
South American reggaeton star, Jadiel El Tsunami, was on the fast track to international fame before he met his untimely death in a ghastly motorcycle accident. The singer was reportedly taking a ride with his brother when he lost control of his motorbike and mistakenly passed the median that separated the freeway from its left and right sides. By 5 am the next day, Tsunami was declared dead in the hospital he was rushed to following the incident. This leaves us curious if an accident lawyer was summoned by his family.
A Frantic Leap - 2001
The 9/11 history is etched in the heart of every blue-blooded American forever. How can the world forget, especially with images like these to jog our memory? Here, we see an unknown man attempting to jump to safety as the building behind him goes up in a pile of smoke and debris even though safety enforcement agencies are battling in vain to arrest the flames and obliteration. Sadly, this man’s attempt to bail from the scene of danger had hastened his death, as virtually all the people who jumped crashed into the hard concrete below and were killed on impact.
Mal de Caribou - 1992
Christopher McCandless' decision to alienate himself from modern-day civilization might not have been fatal if the 24-year-old had some sort of experience. The history and anthropology graduate had suffered verbal child abuse and later learned a hard-hitting truth about his father’s past in 1986 and was reportedly never the same again. After graduating, McCandless had opted to adopt a minimalist, vagabond lifestyle that led him to the popular stampede trail where he was last seen alive. In the months after his final sighting in April 1992, McCandless reportedly starved to death in a converted bus in the Alaskan bush. It was eventually determined that he had attempted to return to civilization but was hindered by a river that blocked the trail.
Defiant Suicidal Nepali – 2003
An unidentified Nepali man was pictured hitting the concrete slab in front of a three-story building in September 2003. The man had jumped from the building’s topmost floor after attempts to talk him out of his suicide failed. But having been relieved of his job earlier in the day, the man who might have been battling depression was unwilling to be pacified. Seconds after the photograph was taken, the strange Nepali man would disintegrate into a pile of debris.
The Death Of Princess Di - 1997
While she never ascended the throne as Queen, Princess Diana is irrefutably the queen of our hearts, and, her death sent shock waves throughout the entire world. One year after her divorce from Prince Charles, Princess Diana was in the company of Dodi Fayed in Pont de l’Alma Paris, when their driver lost control of their vehicle which was headed to their apartment in Rue Arsene Houssaye. The car swerved off the road to a carriageway in front of the Pont de l’Alma tunnel, colliding with the 13th pillar of the tunnel’s roof - resulting in one of the most fatal car accidents the city had ever seen. Diana, Dodie, and the driver did not survive. Wrongful death attorneys, the media, and conspiracy theorists have not stopped thinking about what had really happened even up to this day.
Moments Away From Murder – 1990
Even physically, Robert Rhoades looked like something straight out of a scary movie – but the man’s crimes hit close to home. In February 1990, Rhoades, who was also dubbed the Truck Stop Killer, picked up a 14-year-old runaway, Regina Kay Walters, and her male companion Ricky Lee Jones, both of whom he eventually murdered. But this was not before taking one final picture of Regina. While Rhoades' childhood was reportedly strewn with child abuse and violation by his own parents, experts agree that enduring personal abuse should no way justify his sadistic behavior.
The Inflamed Concorde – 2000
Until July 2000, Concorde had an almost 3-decade long reputation for safe Trans Atlantic flights. That is, until the tragic 4590 accident which the attorney for Concorde claimed to have struck a piece of metal on the runway during takeoff, causing a puncture in the fuel tank and an instant, mid-air inferno. More than a decade later, more lawsuit settlements are being demanded on account of the deceased passengers. Between its 109 onboard fatalities and four others on the ground, we would be surprised if anyone still wanted anything to do with their supersonic aircraft.
One Final Hug Before The Inevitable

The picture of two hugging men atop a burning turbine is one that has haunted individuals since its release – but it turns out that the men where one-half of a four-man team of technicians who were carrying out routine checks on their wind turbine in the Netherlands when it suddenly caught fire. Two of the four men managed to escape, but the two left behind were inadvertently trapped. The pair is seen in a warm embrace shortly before one of them plunged down the turbine in the hope to survive. But neither of the men did. Naturally, the following months were spent battling a wrongful death lawsuit and demanding an insurance claim for technicians exposed to such hazards.
Out In the Open - 2007

In spite of being assassinated, Benazir Bhutto left a legacy that outlives her. The Pakistani-born woman had survived a tumultuous two terms in office as the first female Prime Minister of both her home country and every other democratic (Muslim) country and championed the cause of a number of significant movements amidst controversy. In December 2007, Bhutto was attacked by a suspected suicide terrorist and it proved to be fatal. The 45-year-old died shortly thereafter.
One Last Show – 2015
November 2015 was a dark time for the city of Paris – between the suicide bombers at Stade de France and several mass shootings across town, gloom had already settled over the city. It all came to a head at the Eagles Of Death Metal concert where there were more than 100 fatalities and 400 injuries. The massacre was said to be religiously motivated – and while law enforcement agents made a fair attempt to arrest the situation, major havoc had already been wrecked.
Shark Attack - 2012
In the aftermath of this story, a man and his 18-year-old son would be sitting on the rocks in Koghelbaai – and with them, a body bag with 20-year-old David Lilienfeld in it. David’s love for the water knew no bounds, and as a renowned surfer, it was only a part of his natural habitat. Tragically, it would also be his end, as on April 12, 2012, Lilienfield and a few other companions were testing out a few waves when a great white shark dragged him under the water and mauled him to death. At the end of the attack, his right leg had been severed and he was dead. For someone so young with such big hopes and dreams? We bet even a massive life insurance payout would not ease the grief of his family.
Nature Photography Gone Wrong
Merely minutes after this photograph was taken, the New Jersey hiker who took it, Darsh Patel, would be mauled to death by the subject of his photograph. Apparently, the animal was infuriated by Patel’s gesture or perhaps felt threatened and lunged himself at the 22-year-old student whose remains were later found inside the bear. Patel never stood a chance – and sadly, neither did his parents have any chance for a life insurance payout or lawsuit settlement claim.
One Last Selfie - 2014
For a man charged with the responsibility of keeping the peace, this Turkish cop is a blatant disappointment to his uniform. In an infuriating photograph, the cop is seen snagging one last selfie with a suicidal man, Sadrettin Saskın, who would eventually plummet 600 feet to his death shortly after the picture. Given the circumstances, however, it is satisfying to know that Saskın’s family can at least demand a lawsuit settlement after slapping the city of Istanbul with a wrongful death lawsuit.
The Final Lap - 2014
Cameron Gallagher was a teen with so much promise, and her decision to run the marathon at only 16 years old was a testament to this fact. Sadly, Cameron would get to the finish line only to drop dead following a sudden cardiac arrhythmia – a diagnosis that would shock her parents given their daughter's athletic background. This would have also cut short her dreams to raise awareness of depression and mental health issues, but her family is determined to see the teen’s dreams through as she truly rests in peace.
Disappeared - 2015
Moments before their household was changed together on account of their death, mother and daughter who were Kuala Lumpur-bound are seen smiling into a camera while on-board the ill-fated plane. The flight which was en route from Amsterdam first disappeared from the radar of the control radio but was later found after it had been hit by a missile which disintegrated the plane and all its contents on impact. The Dutch are a long way off from recovery, and we're sure that the airline company is still battling lawsuits left and right for the unresolved tragedy.
Terrorist Attack - 2013
Only a few hours after this photograph was taken, Mohammed Shaar would become the subject of world news as the teenage Lebanese boy posed for a photograph with his friends seconds before becoming nothing but a scarlet blur on the sidewalk. A bomb inside the car they had stood in front of had exploded and had torn them into pieces. Mohammed would be only one of the seven people confirmed to have lost their lives in the blast, with the bombing claiming a former finance minister, Mohammad Chatah, and aid to former premier Saad Hari.
The Chapecoense Tragedy – 2016
Given the Little LaMia airline’s role in the tragic 2016 plane crash that killed 71 of 77 people, including the football team of Chapecoense, we can only expect that the airline is still battling wrongful death lawsuits and related lawsuit settlements. Reports suggest that the airline’s authority had been warned of the plane’s apparent lack of power before take-off – and after ignoring earlier warnings, the ill-fated aircraft headed to Medellin airport and crashed into a hillside near the city to which they had been headed.
Mid-Air Head-on Collision – 1978
In one of the most dramatic aircraft incidents of the entire century, two aircraft both over the San Diego skies collided with each other in midair, in September 1978. Naturally, the collision resulted in a mid-air inferno that eventually brought both planes down, killing 144 persons and injuring nine. The accident, which was the result of a pilot and ATC error is still considered one of the strangest in aircraft accidents in history. The death lawyers and life insurance companies must have had sleepless nights over the incident.
Short-lived Glory - 1982
The year 1982 would have become significant to the advancement of space travel but in a grim turn of events, it became a year to remember as one of the century’s greatest tragedies. Only two minutes after boarding the ill-fated Challenger Space Shuttle, the seven crew members were disintegrated mid-air as the shuttle went up in a fireball and crashed down into the ocean surface. After watching in horror as their loved ones were snuffed out, it is safe to say that the families of the crew deserve every penny of the wrongful death lawsuit settlement they must have decided to claim. But with grief weighing heavily on their minds, it was the last thing they considered at the time.
Death at The Wheel – 1994
In the world of car racing, Ayrton Senna is still considered a legend in his own rights. With more than 40 wins over the course of his decade-long career, the Brazilian-born race car driver earned his lofty status in the industry. Pity his career came to an abrupt end following a tragic 1994 crash at the San Marino Grand Prix. But despite its odds, we can all admit that nothing puts you at higher risk of a car accident like fast car racing does. We can only expect that he has a hefty life insurance payout for his benefactors. There’s certainly no need for a double tragedy.
Collateral Damage – 1943
Being Mayor might have its perks, but it sure has a few of its downsides. For one, like St. Louis William Becker, you might have to mortgage your life and comfort for the people by ensuring their safety in the way that Becker did in 1943. This photograph captures the mayor and his entourage right before the trial of the new aircraft commenced. Tragically, the trial would be determined to be unsuccessful, but even this fact would dim in the light of the death of the mayor and his entourage. So much promise, snuffed out in a matter of seconds.
Costly Showmanship - 2013
Jane Wicker might have been willing to do anything to put on a good show, but she certainly wouldn’t have been eager to mortgage her life or safety. And so, the 45-year-old had learned the intricacies of wing walking and mastered it. The mother of two had an impressive portfolio with regard to aviation and was arguably one of the world's finest wing walkers until the 2013 Daytona airshow when her plane's wing broke off mid-stunt. In no time, the plane was dragged down to a crash before bursting into flames. Neither Wicker nor her pilot, Charlie Schwenker, survived the crash and subsequent inferno.
Fatal Selfie - 2015
With a lot of millennials constantly seeking a new cheap-thrill, it isn’t too hard to find outrageous challenges on the Internet, and in 2015, 17-year old Andrey Retrovesky decided on the adoption of something out of the ordinary – taking risky selfies. In a short time, Retrovesky’s site was strewn with impressively dangerous pictures, and with his expanding portfolio, his followership had increased remarkably. That is, until his final pose atop a nine-story building from which the Russian teen eventually plummeted to his death. Retrovesky’s safety rope was said to have snapped, causing him to lose balance and plunge head-first into the bushes below. He died two hours later.
The Two Minute Flight – 2015
Barely two minutes after take-off, an ill-fated TransAsia Airways flight plunged headlong into the Keelung River in Taipei, Taiwan. The accident was reportedly caused by an engine failure after an earlier flameout caused the pilots to shut off the only functional engine. We sure hope that the 15 survivors had long-term disability insurance – sometimes, a personal injury attorney does not cut it, especially with the slew of death lawyers that probably thronged TransAsia Airways following the incident.
Jaguar Attack - 2012
The Mahananda Wildlife Sanctuary was home to a few exotic creatures, including a beautiful jaguar that appeared harmless until July 2012 when it broke free of its restraints and fled into a nearby village called Limbu, in West Bengal. Afraid of getting slammed with injury settlement claims if the leopard attacked any villagers, the sanctuary guards went in pursuit of the animal, only to become victims of an attack themselves. Three hours later, the jaguar was finally caught and subdued, and even though the guards could verifiably claim personal injuries, there were no fatalities.
A Failed Suicide Attempt - 2009
In between going through a divorce and looking for a job, Mandy K was having a less-than-ideal 2009. But if she thought she could solve the problem by jumping into a polar bear enclosure at the famous Berlin Zoo, then the 32-year-old was in for a wild shocker. Not only did she have to deal with a few near-fatal injuries by the end of the day, but she was also getting dragged to court by the zoo, which was demanding a lawsuit settlement from Mandy for ‘disturbing the peace.’ It sounded like a recipe for another suicide attempt.
Assassinated On Camera - 2011
Politics is indeed, a dirty, lethal game. Otherwise, the assassin captured in the photograph would have had the decency to wait until Reynaldo Dagsa wrapped up family time before taking a shot at the 36-year-old Reynaldo. Dagsa was a fixture in Filipino politics and a serving member of the local Barangay peacekeeping team, which the police claimed to have infuriated the local gang members who were behind his death. Much like the mafia, the Pasaway gang were notorious for wrecking havoc in their local community, and Dagsa’s peacekeeping efforts clearly frustrated their ill activity. That said, we bet the politician's death attorney had a field day in court given the evidence.
Subway Murder - 2012
In 2012, haunting footage of an Asian man stuck in the subway tracks circulated the Internet. The man was eventually revealed to be Ki-Suk Han, a 58-year-old family man who had been shoved into the tracks by another commuter believed to be mentally unstable. Han barely escaped being electrocuted on the tracks, but couldn’t avoid getting crushed to death by an oncoming train despite trying in vain to scramble to safety. It suffices to say, the assailant needed the expertise of a criminal defense attorney to tackle the lawsuit he was eventually slapped with, as Han’s death attorney went in for the kill in court. But with mental health as the defense, the law was mild on him.
Death Vision
Doesn’t matter if you’re holding a master's degree, being a teacher is hard work, especially if you have to teach teens, because frankly they’re usually concerned more about everything else, except education. They’d rather be on their iPhones, gossip on chat, giggle with their friends or whisper sweet-nothings with their girl/boyfriends. Pretty much a frustrating prospect for a teacher, but hey one’s got to handle the angst in some way or other right? Like this teacher who’s obviously fed-up of all the insubordination and giving what can be best described as a deathly glare. We think the said student had better shut up before her evil glare penetrates him physically!
Saved By The Hand
We're not sure if the guy in the picture needed to go to the hospital after this, but he saved the little boy from what could have been a freak accident. He must have had superhero-like reflexes to actually get his arm in front of the kid before the baseball bat did some heavy damage. A personal injury lawyer among the crowd must have held his breath.
Man In The Mirror
It's inspiring for people who went to photography schools to see unique images, like this one, for example. We wonder if the guy really did this for the camera or was just doing his own thing. Hopefully, he got up properly and didn't just fall into the water after this photo was taken.
Weightlifting 'Cousin Itt'
Weightlifting is a very challenging sport that we bet is a good form of exercise, too. Just check out this girl who was candidly shot when she was just about to lift her barbell. Because of all that hair and sweat on her face, doesn't she remind you of the character Cousin Itt from the Adams Family?
He Comes In Peace
We wonder if Olympic swimmers are aware of the thousands of photographs which are taken of them at the oddest times. This swimmer looks like an alien taking a break from his UFO to do some laps. Got any insights about this photo? We'll leave it to your imagination and your online photography classes to top that snapshot.
The Young & The Brave
We're sure at one point in your life, you dreamt of winning a race. This little girl seems like she has some dreams to catch because she fearlessly ran in front of a bike race. Her parents should have a personal injury lawyer on-call next time she does things like this. It's no mean feat to outrun bicycles though; probably a talent she can use to fill up her bank account later on.
What Goes Around, Comes Around
We often think some of the things we use in sports are all tried out and tested but somehow, the universe still begs to differ. It's either this guy's baseball bat wasn't sturdy enough, or whoever threw the ball had superhuman strength. Let's hope his face wasn't damaged by the bat for he might need to get plastic surgery to restore his rugged good looks.
Sucker Punched
High-intensity sports like Mixed Martial Arts can make people have the weirdest facial expressions when photographed at the right time. To show you what we mean, see this shot taken just right when the other girl made sure her opponent's face would be smashed by her punch. Notice that their hairstyle is matching, too!
Right In The Bum
We actually feel sorry for the guy in this photo because it sure looks like it hurt—a lot. He probably regrets getting himself into this brutal sport and wishes he was just at home watching some Netflix. After the ambulance brought him out of his misery, how many days do you think he was stuck in a wheelchair to recover from the piercing in the butt by the bull's horn?
David & Goliath
NBA has brought a lot of players big amounts of money. Most of these names that we cheer for in every game are all 6 footers who have model girlfriends and luxury cars. Size isn't always the basis of one's ability to excel in a given sports. Never let anyone tell you that you can't do a certain thing just because you're not like the others. Be proud, be unique.
Intensely Chinky
A lot of Asians dominate the game of Table Tennis. These players are so fast with their hands and reflexes that it makes you wonder what workout they do to achieve such skills. We don't think these players ever expect to look calm and pretty for these kinds of games can get very intense.
Fingers For Lunch
We guess some athletes get caught up in the frenzy of the game and don't care if they invade each other's personal spaces. This guy is either a "hangry" zombie or his opponent just wanted to grab him by the mouth. From the looks of it, these athletes are very lucky that they have a doctor always on standby.
Michelle & Her Balls
Former First Lady of the United States, Michelle Obama, appears like she has a thing for smacking some balls to keep her fitness intact. This picture showing the former first lady playing tennis can give a lot of people a good laugh. We think the best thing to say for now is—caption this, and don't pull any punches either.
Talk To The Foot
We're not certain if this was a photo from a football game or a scene from The Karate Kid. Only the strong and the brave can partake in this sport because athletes really get down and dirty. It looks painful for the guy on the left, but let's hope his helmet saved him from a stay in the hospital.
Limbo Rock
We can just hope and wish that this is an image of a guy playing Limbo Rock. He seemed like he had one of the worst days of his life because accidents in Track and Field can be so painful. Hopefully, he had good health insurance that will help him pay for the treatments if ever he obtained any serious injuries.
Circus Freak
At first glance, you might think someone has a foot for a head. Well, look again. Gymnasts deserve so much credit for being able to make their body parts reach places that are normally unreachable. We wonder how many back crunches are included in her workout for her to be that flexible.
Bullseye
If you were the guy in the photo, we're sure you'd never want to show the picture to your kids or grandkids. Getting hit by a ball directly on your eye is both painful and embarrassing. He must have gone to the nearest hospital to see a doctor after this mishap.
Do It For The Gram
This one is Instagram. It's obvious that things didn't go as planned and he was just seconds away from having a face-to-face session with the floor. Let's hope this biking accident of his would make him learn how to be more careful. Is there such a thing as biker's insurance? Because he should have one.
The Time Of Her Life
Ho-ho-ho. It looks like Santa's wife came out to play this Christmas. We wonder if she willingly agreed to this move or was just peer-pressured into it. Hopefully, she didn't end up in any serious accident and just enjoyed the whole ride. Thank God she had stockings under her skirt because those kids watching wouldn't want to see a wardrobe malfunction.
Last-Minute Breakdancing
Riding animals can sometimes be fulfilling but it can also get out of hand. This girl probably didn't expect anything to happen when she first decided to participate in this event. She looks as if she was about to hit a breakdancing pose. Her mom should have her health insurance ready before any of this had happened.
Diving In
Diving into the water from your beach house or yacht is always a good idea, but we don't think diving into the water from a hurdle isn't the best of ideas. This man was probably thinking of what was for dinner because he wasn't able to fully focus on the obstacle in front of him. It's funny, but it's still an accident. Ouch!
Talk To The Lacrosse Stick
It appears that women don't really mind getting down and dirty while playing sports (though we wouldn't recommend this as your daily exercise). This girl wasn't thinking that she could probably send her opponent straight to the hospital. At least she made her kiss something that she truly loves.
The Winning Duckface
Admit it - once, you probably took a selfie while making a "duckface." This guy's fitness level must be really high for him to be involved in such a powerful sport. You can just see in his face how intensely he has got his head in the game. Definitely, this is an "Instagram-worthy" duckface shot.
Emoji Party
Synchronized swimming is a very artistic and yet difficult sport, and those who excel in it deserve all the credit that they get. Just look at these girls - all are synchronized up to their facial expressions. They look like your group of friends who see you talking to a boy who is totally not good for you.
Smile For The Selfie
Animal photography can get rather complicated at times because not all creatures will be tamed enough to pose for the camera. Lucky for these guys, this camel that they went up to probably had something good for lunch so he was in a good enough mood to smile for the camera with them.
Casually Falling
People often have the weirdest of expressions during an accident. But this girl mastered the art of falling because she looks picture-perfect even if she was about to faceplant to the ground. Maybe she should start thinking of auditioning for a modeling show like America's Next Top Model.
The Baseball Matrix
Baseball, like a lot of other sports, is an excellent subject for photographers to practice flash photography. There's just something about capturing athletes at the height of their game. Just look at this guy - he almost looks like someone off the movie The Matrix. Hopefully, he stayed in that position and the ball just went over him.
The Hand-apult
Some of you may wonder if this guy had a doctor check his arm after this because something might be wrong. But don't worry, the athlete in this photo is 100% fine. He just possesses great flexibility and strength plus—he's probably double-jointed. We're sure this guy has a bright career ahead of him.
Zombie Apocalypse
This player probably had his eye on the prize and didn't bother paying attention to the army of zombie-like fans behind him. Let's just hope he did take home the prize because an accident from being swarmed by his fans is the last thing he would want to happen.
Allergic To Balls
At first glance, you might focus solely on the guy who seems like he's imagining his worst enemy's face on the ball. But if you look closely, there is a guy that looks as if he just sneezed mid-game or actually just got hit pretty badly on the nose. Hopefully, a doctor came to his rescue right away.
Head To Toe
This guy on the left probably watched a lot of Dragonball or Shaolin Soccer because his facial expression shows how much he's in the game to win. Meanwhile, the guy on the right deserves credit for showing some Kung-Fu skills he must have been hiding for a long time already.
Nose To Nose
This man was probably in great pain just seconds after this photo was taken. We're not sure where his hands were, but what we do know is that he is supposed to catch the ball. We hope he had the money for plastic surgery because fixing his nose won't come cheap.
Goodbye Million Dollar Smile
Even if this is one of those photography shots that may look cool, the player in orange probably lost his front teeth just moments after this shot was taken (and before he went to the dentist). Soccer is another sport that can really get tough and dirty, so it's safe to assume that all athletes invest in excellent health insurance or life insurance.
Piggy-back Ride
People always come up with new things or sports that sometimes would just make you wonder what really goes on in their heads. Just look at this guy who thought of joining a pig rodeo. Judging by the cameraman behind him, he probably made some money partaking in this.
Duckface Is Life
Yes, this was the guy from the previous photo that you just saw, but we just can't help but bring him back because of his winning duckface. The whole world of shot put should give this guy credit for looking effortlessly funny while keeping the intensity of the game.
You May Kiss The Ball
This girl should probably head to the doctor and get her eyes checked because it appears that she's not sure of where the ball is. We guess she hoped for it to land on her arm but the ball just wanted to come face to face with her. Thankfully, the balls in Volleyball aren't hard enough because her face could have been severely damaged and seen by a cosmetic surgeon.
Face Of A Champion
Nadal fans might have mixed feelings about this photo. Here, the tennis champ was captured making the most awful of faces, though fans might dismiss it and still think him cute. He can make all the faces he wants because with an estimated net worth of $31.5 million, looking neat and handsome would be the least of his concerns.
Oh No, He Didn't!
As much as this guy's fans are loving the first-hand experience they are getting with their favorite player, this professional basketball player seems like he was caught off-guard and was probably out for some vengeance on whoever pushed him. He should thank these guys for saving him from what could have been an even worse kind of accident.
You Snooze, You Lose
It seems like the player in the photo has his mind elsewhere. This shot was right on time when the ball collided with the player's face. It must have hurt like crazy and we hope that the player was able to see a doctor right away and seek the necessary treatment. Brain injury must be covered by the team's insurance, right?
Water Bucket Hat
A lot of people love doing water photography - like taking a picture of someone flipping the hair out of the water or just splashing around with friends. This photo is so on point because it was taken just when this swimmer was about to catch his breath. It also seems like he's wearing a bucket hat fashioned from water.
It's A-Rod Magic
Alex A-Rod Rodriguez is a big name in the world of baseball and has earned a ton of money in his bank account over the years. He has a superstar status, and this photo just shows how cool he is. Look at him toss the baseball in mid-air while looking like the true superstar that he is.
A Lesson in Melody
We’re unsure if this is a music school, though it doesn’t seem like one. And yet, it seems like this teacher is giving her students a lesson in singing. Or perhaps, it’s just a good way to grab your audience, especially an inattentive one like a group of college kids more interested in other topics. We believe this teacher has found a way to grab eyeballs, well, attention in any case, by belting out some musical notes. Or maybe she’s simply entertaining a very bored class, either way, we’re quite keen to know what it was she was actually singing, was it the lesson for the day?
Camouflage Pants or Army Training?
At first glance it does seem like this girl is probably trying out an army school, why else would you need to wear camouflage pants in class? Or perhaps she’s merely trying to hide from being called out to answer questions or perform chores in class. It’s quite perplexing really, but at least this Samaritan is concerned about fitness, and she also seems to be quite occupied with cleaning the whiteboard for her teachers. Class prefect anyone? We’ve got the perfect candidate for you, only next time we hope she wears more sensible clothing!
Anatomy 101
No one can accuse this class of being bored, especially when they have a teacher who’s made a rather odd (and bold we believe) choice to go to school dressed up in an anatomy outfit. At least she isn’t handing out fidget spinners to her students, since we’d be tempted to seek a psychologist then! This teacher seems to have found a way to bring some interest among her students while she teaches them the basics of the human body (anatomy can get boring). Not only has she grabbed their attention, as awkward as it might be, but she’s also allowing their curiosities to pique. We hope the kids get over their initial discomfort, because hey that’s a great way to learn anatomy!
My Desk My Rules
May we suggest this young lady take a course on proper desk usage? Because that is certainly NOT the way to use a desk. Or it could be that she’s on one of those private student loans and thinks it is okay to lay upside down, topsy turvy on her school or college desk. It also could be that she figured no one was watching her and decided to change positions because sitting on a desk is so passé right? Lucky for us (and unluckily for her), someone, possibly a classmate who’s just as astounded as us, behind her decision to take a quick snap of her ‘mis(s)’deed, hah! But our biggest question is, where on earth was the teacher?
Proximity Alert
Just because you’re a teacher doesn’t mean you let go of your diet and fitness, it’s important to keep your body healthy along with your mind. Only then can you pay equal individual attention to each student, just like this teacher who’s obviously putting her degree to the right use by reaching out to every student and checking his or her work. We do hope she wasn’t suffering from bad breathe, though we can’t help but wonder what the boys in the class were thinking about such close proximity? At least no one’s giggling or whispering behind her back!
Outfit Emergency
While we’re no one to decide what one must wear, we suppose it’s important to conform to some form of dress code, especially if you are a teacher (or student). This teacher, who obviously has a gorgeous body, unfortunately, got into some trouble a while back when she decided to dress up in this tight-fighting pastel outfit. Most of you would probably remember her from the news, considering how much media outrage her outfit caused. It seems that many parents and faculty members felt that the dress wasn’t appropriate for schools. We’d rather not comment on this one, though we have to say, she’s got her fitness on point, eh?
Teachers Seeking Love
It might be difficult to imagine that your teachers can actually have a life outside their classroom, but don’t forget they are human too! So it’s not wrong for them to seek relationships, and even if it does seem a bit weird if the courtship or flirting happens right under your noses, do give them some leeway sometimes. Looking at this picture it’s quite clear that the teachers are having a tiny private conversation of the lovey-dovey variety, and we’d bet our life insurance that the lady is having none of it. In fact, she looks quite bored and is trying her best to ignore the advances of her male colleague. Yikes, talk about rejection!
No exceptions
We might have gotten away with a lot at school, learning some useful tricks that may have proven to be quite handy, such as feigning to concentrate while snoozing, or hiding a comic book inside a large textbook. And if kids these days are smarter, their teachers are no less. So if you’re planning to increase the font of your text in order to get away by writing less for your school or college project work, think again. This teacher has obviously become tired of explaining nicely and has finally decided to give his students a dire warning. Nothing less than what’s asked for or the teacher will use his flamethrower to burn that paper, beware!
Choose True or False
Pop quizzes, impromptu tests, sudden exams, oh the number of surprise tests, couple with the normal school exams are seriously a huge burden on our poor little minds…quite sure that’s how every student feels, even in this generation. And hey it’s the same way even when you’re getting an online degree. So what’s the best option when you’re about to give up on answering the huge number of tests? Giving up, or marking random options, without actually caring. It seems like this teacher too has given up expecting correct answers from his students, and he’s just decided to give them the answers instead. How incredibly lazy can these students get?
Energy-giving Tears
You’ve heard of energy drinks, right? But have you heard of energy-giving student tears? And apparently, it isn’t just one unfortunate student’s tears, but the entire class’s. We reckon this was done as a joke, something teachers often resort to breaking tension and monotony in the classroom. After all, being a college professor is hard work, and with so much stress, it’s a good idea to come up with an idea like this. We do have to wonder if this diet of students’ tears helped the teacher through the rest of the day, or did he actually end up making them cry? Hmmm.
The Pain of Failing a Test
If the student doesn’t feel the pain of flunking a test, you can be sure the teacher will, especially if half his class manages to fail. Now there’s only so much you can do to request them to pass their tests, you know, like studying for said test perhaps? Alas, this teacher was prepared for another ‘failure’, so this is what he did-he dragged a coffin, an actual coffin from the funeral home, and lay down inside it. We hope people didn’t think that funeral services were being held inside the classroom, because boy, that coffin must NOT have been easy to carry over.
Shrub-stitute Tree-ching
One of the best memories of school has got to be the time when substitute teachers came over to take a temporary class. Of course, the amount of studying would be replaced by fun and games for the entire duration, or sometimes even a movie. This particular teacher, or shall we say, tree-cher, decided to have some fun while he was at it (good impressions matter). He managed to drape himself in an entire tree (yes tree), and seriously, we wonder if the tree services were after him for this? Though how he entered the classroom is beyond us, and we’re hoping the tree removal services didn’t have to be involved to escort this tree-cher off the premises.
Marking Shmarking
Marking grade papers is never easy when you’re a teacher, and maybe, just maybe it was easy at school, but it’s a whole different ball game when you’re teaching a degree course at a college. And let’s not discuss what happens when the tests and essays actually suck. But then being a teacher has its perks, and even if you can’t ignore the terrible results, you can at least use some fancy paper clips that, er, describe how rubbishy the entire process is. What we want to know is, are those test papers really that bad, or is the teacher being a little over-the-top?
The Wall of Fame (or Shame)
Many teachers will tell you that in their teaching experience very few students are actually keen learners. 99% times students are less than eager to learn new things or partake in interesting stuff, such as quizzes. Forget about surprise quizzes, even if they’re told to study for one beforehand, they will more than likely not come prepared. But this teacher found a way to publicly shame the ones who failed his quiz! What a brilliant way, though it was all done in jest, obviously, and the students seemed to be in on this little project quite willingly! We’re sure the college won’t be firing him for teaching his students such a valuable lesson!
Tied-to Class
It doesn’t matter how much sleep you get before a school night, there is a very high chance that a student will fall asleep in class at one point or another. And if that class is a math class, then we’re pretty sympathetic on the whole class. Now as a teacher, you have two options, that is, you can take offense or you proceed to make the child realize his folly, preferably without berating him. Well, you could ignore the sleeping kid too, but we prefer this teacher’s way of tying up the kid’s shoelaces in class. Imagine what will happen when he wakes up and tries to escape class, what a great way to put your degree to use!
A Different Approach
Our basic life-skill sets are taught to us at school, in fact, it is our teachers who impart upon us their knowledge and teach us what their degree taught them. After all, without their encouragement, most of us would just end up with car parts and coffee. Not that any job is a bad job, but what’s the need for education if a student just ends up flipping burgers at McDonald’s? He doesn’t need to be college-educated for that, and this teacher had a great lesson for his student who was constantly failing his exams. Either study and pass or fill out the application form for a local McD’s.
Psych-Out
Our first goal after leaving school is to find a college of choice, because haven’t we all been told to make the most of our college education and how important these years are? Concentrating in class and making the best use of your lectures are what you’ve been told, but if you are attending Dr. Lopez’s psychologist schools then the lessons are going to be a tad different. Look at his class goals and you’ll be surprised to see that one of his to-do points on his presentation is to leave! GTFO if we’re speaking his language, and well if you’re actually asking them to leave that easily, we don’t think they’ll have to be told twice!
Question Authority
Some school and college teachers are good, some are okay and some are downright cool, like this teacher. Usually, when a student gets a wrong answer and proceeds to back-question his teacher, there’s a high likelihood of getting the results back with a big, round zero, or worse. However, this teacher seems to be one of those cool dudes who decided to tackle his student’s sarcastic ‘question’ with a funny answer, congratulating him on questioning authority, and even giving him full marks for it. We must ask though, did the student receive a talking-down later, or did he get off easy? Kudos to the teacher for his unique approach.
Grabbing a few Z’s
Being a teacher can be really hard. Imagine having to work before the students reach, working after they’re gone, and sometimes even having to skip lunch to finish work. In short, it’s not just students who may fall asleep in class. This teacher has obviously been quite sleep-deprived and we can’t blame him for catching a few winks in class. It doesn’t matter what sort of master's degree you hold, even the most prolific teacher might end up snoozing in class if they’re exhausted. Well, we hope this little nap has helped the teacher to recharge and re-energize himself.
Ghost Students?
Student life is fun, and what happens when they feel like taking a bunk but need to be present? They devise a way to be in two places at one time, aka, they send their clothes to school. What you see here is a case of Ghostly student bodies, except there are no ghosts, nor students present here, just their uniforms made to sit in place. We wonder if these kids used this cleverness in their studies, would have probably helped them earn big fat degrees at an alarming rate, right? In fact, we think this plan worked out quite brilliantly, and are certain they got away…well almost until their teacher spotted that the tracksuits had no bodies to fill inside!
The Attack of the Bee
Looking at this next picture we cannot help but wonder if the teacher is taking out his angst on something else since he cannot actually use a flamethrower on a kid! It’s not easy being a teacher, especially when you have to teach might college kids who are filled with teenage angst and often raise your hackles with their antics. Why not drown your anger in a glass of wine, or punch a boxing bag, or just scream at the wall? This teacher seems to use his flamethrower at a wasp that was buzzing around inside the classroom. We mean, wouldn’t it be easier to whack at it with a book or smack it with a ruler, but knowing these things, it’s probably safer to burn it. What do we know, we’re not degree teachers!
Are you Mozart?
There’s always a two-way street when it comes to being a teacher, be it for normal education or for music, it doesn’t matter. And yes, kids can be quite annoying no matter the setting. This means that a teacher has got to be prepared for all kinds of scenarios, especially when the scene involves a piano and a bunch of curious kids who’d love nothing more than twanging on the keys. Hey, that’s college property guys, be gentle! This teacher’s found a great way to ensure the safety of his piano, and he’s drawn up a funny sign too. So unless you’re Mozart, don’t experiment with the keys, he says! And of course, no one’s a Mozart, so basically, quit playing around and pay attention!
I Kid you Not
It’s easy to pull the wool over your teacher’s eyes, once or twice. But if someone keeps repeating, you can bet their teacher is going to know exactly what’s going on. After all, before they got their own degree, teachers were students too. Though we doubt they had cell phones in class back then, unlike these days when every kid has one. And what’s worse, they end up texting and chatting on those darn mobile phones during class. Now if you’re like this teacher, then the problem might solve itself. After all, no one’s really that foolish to believe that a student is smiling at their lap for no reason unless he was possessed of course!
Lama Lama so much Drama
Let’s be totally honest here, which of today’s kids is brought up without technology? Not a single one that we know of, in fact, most of them own about a dozen different devices and some even take those to school. We’d bet our life insurance premium that this ends up driving most teachers up the wall. The constant pinging and diversion from classwork seem to have driven this teacher crazy. Look how he’s all hunched up on the desk with his face in his hands! Crying? We think not! Just frustrated we think.
Tick-Tock-Tick Goes the Clock
Time and tide wait for no man, something we were taught at school. But wait, did we ever give as much attention to our teachers as we gave the hands of the clock? It seems like this is a universal phenomenon plaguing students across the world, whether you’re on a scholarship or studying on a student loan. Well, it looks like this teacher has found a way to give his students a valuable lesson, one they seem to be unable to process. He’s made some wall-stickers and placed it around the clock they love staring at, and it quite pointedly tells them that Time will pass eventually, but will they pass? Obviously not, if one keeps staring at a clock instead of learning in class!
Picture Day
Oh how excited would we be on Class Picture day, wearing our best clothes, hair combed neatly, and looking our best! It’s important to look smart and presentable because no one wants to look back a decade later and find their awkward class photograph staring them in the face. It seems though this college professor decided to mix and match up to his outfit with a little birdie, a fake one of course, not that you’d know looking at the photo! What a wonderful memory that one will turn out to be, especially something he or his students could show off to their families, many years later. We wish all teachers were as cool as this!
By Appointment Only
Who has ever said that teachers don’t have a sense of humor? It can get quite monotonous and tedious working in an educational institute day-in and out, and some days can be really tough, which is probably why this teacher resorted to the use of some humor to keep his students at bay. After all imagine people sauntering into your private sanctuary all day, to enquire about notices, student loans, and all other official stuff. This teacher was so annoyed with his students appearing out of nowhere, demanding his time and possibly attention that he put up a sign that said ‘Walkens not Accepted’. Get the drift? Walkens, walk-ins…yeah, we get it too, and sure wouldn’t want to cross his path right now!
Merry Mariachi Followers
Being a teacher has its perks, but it also has its drawbacks, especially when your students decide to prank you and there’s literally nothing you can do about it. Like the Headmistress of this high school who became the victim of a friendly prank by her students. Deciding to be incredibly loud and annoying, they hired a Mariachi band to follow her around throughout the day, even when she was heading towards her bible study class. Imagine the racket it must have caused. Thankfully the Headmistress was a good sport and she actually even posted the entire incident on her personal social media account. What a hoot!
Dreams are Doomed
Sometimes teachers can be quite demoralizing, we know, we’ve all had a few of those, but maybe this wasn’t the case here. Perhaps, this teacher was just being realistic and used this photograph as an example to get his point across. As kids, most of us have been told to ‘wish upon a star’, but hey, we all know that dreams don’t come true just by wishing on them, we must work to achieve our dreams. This teacher though went one step ahead and declared that dreams like stars die eventually. What a buzz kill teacher! Come on, don’t spoil their bright little smiles like that, or we’ll send you to a psychologist school! Just joking of course!
Too Old
Teachers spend their life dedicated to their jobs, often sacrificing a lot and at the cost of many personal wants, working extremely hard for decades before they can finally think about retirement. And often the job can be incredibly tough, draining, and even thankless, so much so that sometimes even the best teachers lose their ability to care deeply. Though we’re unsure whether this was said in jest or the teacher was actually fed-up, it seems like she could not care any less about the students’ college grades, allowing them to grade themselves. Or maybe she was just tired and her poor eyesight made this quite difficult to read?
No Potential
There was once a teacher who described how fulfilling it felt to see his students turn into successful young people and that every bit of his hard work paid off. Sadly, that’s not always the case, especially with new teachers fresh off their degrees. They quickly realize that teaching isn’t that fulfilling all the time. In fact, it can get downright disappointing, especially when you notice the pupil’s lack of interest. This teacher became so upset and demotivated by the lack of interest in his classroom that he decided to leave the class rather dejectedly. But you know what, instead of leaving through the door like normal people, he climbed out of the classroom window and shuffled away sadly. Darn it, poor man!
Open House Menu Anyone?
What is the day of the year you dread most? Ask any student this question and they are most likely to tell you that it’s ‘Open House Day’, and why not? Having your teacher tell your parent how abysmal your work has been, how terrible you have been, around the year, is painful to hear. We’re sure most parents have enough of that to deal with anyway! Now, this teacher devised an ingenious plan, one that is mutually beneficial for both student and teacher. Oh yes, he has a menu, $1 for saying so and so…you get the picture right? What a smart idea, though we wonder if it actually worked?
Going in the trash
One of the worst things in your career as a teacher is having to repeatedly tell your students the same things, again and again. And then in spite of listening, they do it again. Over and over again you tell them to be on time, to finish their college or school work, to pay attention in class, and obviously, you have to ask them, almost beg them to submit their assignments on time. Alas, they never listen. This teacher devised an ultimate way to teach his students the perils of late assignments and placed a trash can in the classroom. He decided to dump all late assignments in the trash, meaning all your hard work goes down the drain unless you submit your work on time. Boo-yeah!
A Nap a Day (Keeps the Teacher Away?)
Yes yes, we know that school can be a pain for students, but hey it can get painful for the teachers as well. To be fair, if you have to wake up at dawn and trudge to school to be greeted by a Math class, first thing in the morning, that too, on a Monday, we wouldn’t blame you if you fell asleep in class. Like this girl, who has possibly done a lot of studying over the weekend (we meant partying really), and snoozed off in the middle of class, and look how she’s made herself comfortable on her desk! May we suggest taking an online degree in this case? You can sleep when your want and study when you think you’re fully awake, heh!
Jamie Lee Curtis & Danielle Brisebois, 1983
After her 1978 film debut in Halloween, Jamie Lee Curtis became a staple in the Hollywood horror-movie scene. Only two years earlier, Danielle Brisebois, made her first appearance in The Premonition at only seven years old – and nearly a decade into their respective careers, both actresses were thriving in the industry when they met and were pictured at the famous Beverly Hilton Hotel in 1983. This would prove to be a memorable moment in both their lives, as less than a decade later, Brisebois would abandon her acting career for music and Jamie Lee Curtis would be infamously enticed into the world of cosmetic surgery and anti-aging skin care, most of which she would eventually remark as being a complete waste of time.
John Wayne, 1930
Marion Robert Morrison grew up in South-California and until the late ‘20s, he was an aspiring footballer. In a tragic but fateful turn of events, he lost his college football scholarship and was forced to take a job as a prop boy and extra at a local film studio. By 1930, Morrison was a Hollywood A-lister going by the alias, John Wayne. He went on to deliver multiple stellar performances until his death of stomach cancer in 1979. There was no better time to immortalize the handsome and talented actor than at the peak of his fame.
Queen Elizabeth & Prince Phillip, 1968
This seemingly casual and laid-back photograph was a sharp contrast to the uptight lives its two subjects must have led in the ‘60s. Apart from being cousins, Prince Philip and Elizabeth of Demark and Greece were husband and wife. The two were close relations of Queen Victoria and King Christian the 9th of Denmark and naturally, their lives were an airbrushed version of reality, strewn with conveniences such as makeup and professional photography. So, why not take advantage of their privileges to preserve a precious moment?
Cherie Currie, 1977
The year is 1977 and a picture of Cherry Ann Currie leaning toward a record player is no surprise. While her counterparts in entertainment are bothered with cosmetics, face care treatment, and good cosmetic surgery, the frontwoman of the ‘70s band, The Runways, is more enthralled by music and seems eager to get her daily fix like this photograph suggests. Even more impressive is the fact that she can figure her way around a record player. Girl power!
Cape Canaveral Launch Pads, The 1960s
The Cape Canaveral Air Force station was first used as a missile testing ground in the Truman administration. Eventually, it became a notable foundation of space missions and the spot from which many space exploration frontiers were first launched - from the 1958 first U.S. earth satellite to the first spacecraft to orbit Saturn that was launched in 2004. With only a few active take-off pads left, the station might be instrumental to advancements in biotechnology. Unfortunately, the glory days of the Cape Kennedy might be behind it, and this picture can only depict so much of its past grandeur.
Brigitte Bardot, 1962
In 1962, Brigitte Bardot was a 28-year old actress, model, and no doubt, a stunner. But her fame was not the sole result of skin care products or health and fitness routine. Her stellar performance in the 1957 film And God Created Woman catapulted her into the limelight and put her at the center of media attention and numerous debates, given the controversial nature of the film. It wasn’t too long before the paparazzi began breaking down walls to get a glimpse of the beauty – and we are sure glad they were generous enough to share.
Ernest Hemingway & Antonio Ordóñez, 1959
Between Antonio Ordóñez’s bullfighting and Ernest Hemingway’s drinking (and writing), these two were very unlikely companions. However, Ordóñez and Hemingway were such close buddies that Antonio fondly referred to the writer as ‘father Ernesto.’ When the duo somehow ended up in a jail cell in 1959, they couldn’t resist the need to immortalize the moment with some wine and a smile. Two short years later, Hemingway committed suicide, but it wasn’t until 1998 that Ordóñez died of liver cancer.
Caroline Kennedy Holding Her Father's Hand, 1961
Caroline Kennedy may now be known for her political office and her abilities as a prolific author, but in 1961, she was merely a 4-year old picture of innocence that stayed hot on the heels of her father while he attended to presidential matters. Tragically, John F. Kennedy was murdered shortly after this photograph of Caroline holding her father's hand became popular. Caroline may not have had any more hands to hold, but it certainly didn't stop her from becoming a pillar of her own.
Marilyn Monroe, 1951
Only a woman like Marilyn Monroe could defy beauty standards and still remain on top of her game. In response to a demeaning comment made by a news-journalist, in 1951, Monroe was pictured in a dress made from a burlap sack. Well, the dress was meant to serve as the actress’ rejoinder following the journalist’s infamous statement that wryly pointed out that Monroe was ‘cheap and vulgar’ and would have looked better in a potato sack. As it turned out, he was right after all. All she needed was a smile to rope us all in.
Charlie Chaplin & His Four Wives, The 1950s
Considered one of Hollywood’s most notable figures, Charlie Chaplin rose to fame as an actor and filmmaker after making numerous appearances in original films between 1914 and 1918. But neither Chaplin’s remarkable talent nor his dashing good looks could compare to his uncanny ability to attract beautiful women, and being pictured side by side his four wives only bore credence to this fact. It suffices to say, most of his anti-aging attempts proved futile, but by the time of his death in 1977, the man had no doubt immortalized himself the best way possible.
Chitra Ghose & Daughter, 1982
Say what you will about Chitra Ghose’s parenting methods, but this iconic picture of the celebrity chef lighting a cigarette with her adolescent daughter only a hair’s breath away proves that children will often find their own path. Well, getting pregnant or giving birth doesn’t automatically equip anyone with motherly instincts. Surprisingly, what Ghose lacked in the nurturing ability, she made up for with her skills as a consultant chef for the reputable ITC group.
Claudia Cardinal, 1959
Tunisian-born beauty Claudia Cardinale earned critical acclaim in the ‘60s following her crowning as The Most Beautiful Italian Girl in Tunisia and her subsequent debut as an actress in the 1958 French-Tunisian film, Goha. However, it wasn’t until her role in The Pink Panther that her career took off. Cardinale is now 80 years old and a long way off from runways or any meaningful anti-aging or body lifting attempts. But this photograph sure preserves an invaluable memory of the stunning model/actress.
Desi Arnaz & Lucille Ball, 1951
It was certainly not your average love story, but Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball’s relationship had all the workings of a whirlwind romance with a sprinkle of Hollywood drama. The pair, who were co-stars of I Love Lucy, were the faces of the ‘40s television (and romance). Eventually. though, they proved that counseling psychology or couples therapy could help keep a couple in the limelight together. In the end, the pair got a divorce after 28 years of marriage, but where’s the harm in reminiscing about good old times, right?
Jacqueline Bisset, 1967
Anti-aging supplements and cosmetic surgery seem to have their limitations; otherwise, Jacqueline Bisset just might have exploited them to remain young and wrinkle-free forever. At the time of this photograph, however, the English actress had only just broken into Hollywood following her first notable role in the 1967 film, Two for the Road. The movie would prove to be the beginning of many conquests in Bisset’s career. After more than 100 TV/film appearances five decades later, we bet the actress won’t trade her on-screen success for immortality if it came to it. A few wrinkles never did anyone any harm if you think about it.
A Douglas DC-3, 1935
Before the world of aviation firmly rooted its foundation in major technological advancements, there were aircraft such as the Douglas DC-3 which served to provide air-travel services to willing passengers. With an initial average of 25 hours flight time and 15 mid-way stops, the DC-3 became a revolution of sorts, further opening up services to include air ambulance transport. On its first flight in December 1935, eager passengers in this photograph smile enthusiastically for the camera, perhaps unaware that they would be a part of a major historical event that will usher in future advancements long after they're gone.
Chevy Chase & John Belushi, 1976
In the world of television, Saturday Night Live seamlessly ranks amongst the immortals. With a cast that (at one time) included characters such as Chevy Chase and James Belushi, SNL has earned its place at the top of the TV charts. Perhaps one reason for its success was that the production had managed to get two top comedians (that could otherwise not stand each other) together, sharing a smile. Now if this isn’t a quick fix for depression we don’t know what is.
Jon Bon Jovi, 1985
These days, Jon Bon Jovi’s most pressing concerns may be launching his line of wine and battling potential baldness. But in 1985, between his great head of hair and arms filled with beautiful female fans, the musician certainly had fewer concerns. The now 55-year old was instrumental to the success of the ‘80s rock band, Bon Jovi where he has been the front man for nearly four decades, except for its brief hiatuses in 1990–1991 and 1997–1999. We're curious to see how the charmer would look like as he approaches his 60's. A little more wrinkles perhaps?
Clint Eastwood with Orangutan, 1978
Nearly half a century after posing with an orangutan while on the set of a movie, Clint Eastwood is still considered a Hollywood legend within his rights. The photograph of the director with the orangutan, Manis, was shot on the set of Any Which Way But Loose and proved to be the beginning of Manis’ thriving Hollywood career. But while Clint had an easier time climbing the Hollywood ladder, Manis seemed content with being a Las Vagas attraction along with other show animals that he probably considers his surrogate family. Well, it is quite a lonely climb to success.
Paul Newman, 1963
Until his lung cancer diagnosis in 2008, Paul Newman was a significant part of Hollywood in various capacities. Newman was an actor, producer, director who insisted, however, that his first love was race car driving. When this photograph was taken in 1963, Newman was at the peak of his acting career, reeling over his divorce from Jackie Witte, and already married to Joanne Woodward. And despite the receding hairline, he was still one good-looking man. Little wonder the actor could barely feign a smile.
Audrey Hepburn & Mel Ferrer With Truman Capote, 1956
Nothing says Hollywood like a ‘throuple’ that consists of a Hollywood power couple and their equally popular friend – and Audrey Hepburn, Mel Ferrer, and Truman Capote were certainly the trio to look up to for inspiration in the ‘50s. Given their respectively successful careers, it suffices to say that their perfect smiles and great skin condition may be the work of plastic surgery or makeup artist lurking in the background of the photo. But a little cosmetic help never hurt anyone; and we certainly wish they stayed this way forever.
Clint Eastwood & Ethel Kennedy, 1977
There are very few photographs in history that represent as much power as the picture of Hollywood’s leading actor/filmmaker Clint Eastwood along with the late Robert Kennedy’s widow, Ethel Kennedy. The pair was spotted at the 6th Annual RFK Tennis Tournament in 1977, making the kind of small talk that often makes onlookers ask - what could these two be going on about? Their anti-aging rituals perhaps? But when two equally powerful people sit side by side, it is only natural that they pick each other;s brains.
David Bowie & Cher, 1975
Forty years after David Bowie and Cher shared a stage on her variety show, Cher, the music industry has yet to make a full recovery from the talent that was unleashed. The duo performed a medley of famous songs sandwiched between David Bowie’s Young Americans in what was one of the most memorable duets of the decade. Four decades later, Bowie is dead from liver cancer and Cher is 71 and battling with anti-aging cosmetics, but their music still has tongues wagging - proving the little-known fact that music, just like memories, is immortal.
Leif Garrett, Joan Jett, Michael Jackson & Janet Jackson, 1977
When Michael Jackson showed up with his sister at the 1977 Rock and Roll Celebrity Sports Classic, only a few took note. Well, that was until the pair was pictured with rock legends Leif Garrett and Joan Jett, who were all smiles, dancing and cheering to what was believed to be a stage performance. Janet might be all grown up and the ‘70s afro hairstyle out of date, but one thing stays unchanging – good music, especially if it brings important people together. How's that for a great music history?
Paul & Linda McCartney, 1978
Paul and Linda may have been the ‘70s Hollywood power couple, but between Paul’s battle with depression and his heavy drinking, the duo was also considered somewhat dysfunctional. This is perhaps why photographs like these that captured a laid-back Paul and Linda chatting mindlessly with Bill Wyman and Mick Jagger at a 1978 The Rolling Stones concert are a breath of fresh air. Surprisingly, the McCartney couple remained inseparable until Linda’s death due to breast cancer in 1998.
Ike Turner & Tina Turner, 1972
For more than a decade, Ike and Tina Turner were the married, music duo that rock enthusiasts couldn’t seem to get enough of. The pair has since and divorced proceeded to pursue solo careers. But even in the aftermath of Tina Turner’s new spouse and Ike’s death, this photograph shot at a party in Copenhagen, in 1972, reminds us of a time when the couple made musical magic; and we can only long for the good old days. What's love got to do with making great and memorable music together anyway?
Dustin Hoffman, 1979
It is the 1979 New York premiere of Kramer vs. Kramer and the star of the movie, Dustin Hoffman, plants a kiss on his mother’s cheek while she lights up into a perfect smile for the camera. Hoffman has enjoyed a fairly lucrative career until that point, and Kramer vs. Kramer would yet rake in more critical acclaim. He might as well celebrate his future victories with a dance and a kiss on his mother's cheek - that should get him somewhere. Maybe another reason to celebrate would be his graceful aging at 80 - even with his wrinkles and graying hair.
Sarah Jessica Parker & Ray Bolger, 1979
Long before Sarah Jessica Parker began making appearances on censored content such as SatC, the actress was a young unknowing child-star with nothing but dreams on her resumé. While she worked her way up in Hollywood, however, Parker made a few friends in high places, including actor/musician, Ray Bolger. The pair was photographed sharing a smile at Bill Bogg’s 1979 Thanksgiving party. Sadly, Bolger passed away due to bladder cancer in 1987.
Kathy Switzer Harangued, 1967
If women now enjoy equal participation rights in sports, it is not without the influence of people like Kathy Switzer. In 1967, Switzer joined the Boston Marathon in solidarity for women to run the marathon which earlier banned female participation (she must have gone through a strict fitness regimen to prepare for it). In one of history’s most remarkable photographs, a marathon official was seen trying to stop Switzer as she managed to soldier on. It would take another five years before women would be allowed to run, but Switzer’s defiant smile in the picture proves that she knew she had made a dent on the universe right from the onset of her battle.
The Royals, 1977
This is the picture that every English young adult would give an arm to be in – a picture that represents beauty, charm, and affluence, complete with the makeup, jewels, and nagging paparazzi. A few years from the day this picture was taken Prince Charles, would be married and then divorced from Princess Diana in what would prove to be the most controversial royal marriage. Tragically, his ex-wife would die in a car crash shortly thereafter. But before his life has gone amok, he sits in a vehicle, flanked by Prince Albert and Princess Caroline of Monaco and flashes his perfect smile at the excited paparazzi.
Ingrid Bergman & 11-month-old Twins, Isabella & Ingrid, 1953
Swedish-born actress, Ingrid Bergman was on the fast track to A-list status in Hollywood when she met and married Roberto Rossellini. The couple had twin girls Isabella and Ingrid Rossellini who are an epitome of perfection. Together with their mother, the 11-month old twin girls are pictured on their living room floor in Italy. Ingrid Bergman has since passed away from breast cancer - but Isabella is making a name for herself one exploit after another.
Jayne Mansfield, 1960
Perhaps with recent advancements in biotechnology, Jayne Mansfield would have lived for just a little longer in today’s age. Sadly, when she suffered a brain trauma in 1967 after an accident, very little could be done to save the actress/former Playboy playmate. In one of her most memorable photographs, Mansfield is in her home infamously dubbed Pink Palace, in 1960. But between the anti-aging products, sagging-skin treatment, and hair loss treatment, she isn’t missing out on much anyway.
Frank Sinatra & Nancy Sinatra, 1943
It’s 1943, and there’s nothing more iconic than this photo of music genius, Frank Sinatra, and his first wife, Nancy Sinatra, attentively listening to music in their home. This duo would battle a number of challenges in the coming years - from divorce to hair loss and near bankruptcy, but it would all come to a head with Frank’s heart attack in 1992. Meanwhile, the pair smiles unknowingly as they share good music together. Had Frank lived to this day, he would've been a blue-eyed, balding 103-year-old, who would have long abandoned any anti-aging products.
John Ritter & Suzanne Somers, 1978
Between being misdiagnosed with a heart attack and undergoing a failed surgical procedure for his aortic dissection, the conditions surrounding John Ritter's death were pretty sketchy – but so was his relationship with Suzanne Somers after she was fired for demanding the same salary as her co-star during the production of ABC’s ’70 sitcom, Three’s Company. But long before their lives slipped into a haze of controversies, doctor negligence, and mild chaos, Ritter and Somers lived in an alternate reality, where they managed to make each other smile - here's your photographic evidence.
Steve Martin & Bernadette Peters, 1977
The year is 1977 and Steve Martin and Bernadette Peters are Hollywood’s idyllic couple - only for a while of course. In a few years Steve would be battling anxiety and depression while Peters would have been whisked off into the sunset by a financial investor, but for a brief moment at the Aspen Airport Lounge in 1977, it isn’t the future they imagine as a smile at the paparazzi. Despite its downturns, however, most people agree that their 4-year relationship was no mistake at all and well-worth the cost.
The Human Owl, 1921
Born in 1886 to a German family, Martin Laurello was simply an average little man, until he had discovered that he could rotate his head a full 180 degrees. By 1921, he immigrated to the US and became a performer dubbed The Human Owl alias, Bobby the Boy with the Revolving Head. It suffices to say, Laurello had made quite a fortune from being unusual, but it came at a steep cost, and body contouring took its toll on him eventually (though we don't have any information about his exact illness or cause of death).
The Ovitz Family, 1940s
Diagnosed with a rare condition known as Pseudoachondroplasia, the Ovitzes were a Jewish-Romanian family of dwarves known for their music in the ’30s and the ‘40s. Although they became a major attraction in their day, they were not exempt from the chaos unleashed by World War II, and as Jews, they were eventually taken captive in the infamous Auschwitz concentration camp. Thankfully, they made it out alive and headed home to Romania when the war was over.
Rubber Man, The 1890s
At first glance, James Morris seems like a regular average Joe, but he was no ordinary man. Morris was born in 1859 with a birth defect known as Ehlers-Danlos syndrome that allowed him the rare ability to stretch his skin in the most unusual manner. How unusual? Well, he was able to stretch his skin up to 18 inches from his body without soreness. Naturally, 'The Rubber Man,' or how he came to be known, joined the Barnum and Bailey Circus and toured several circuses, but his popularity had eventually died down and so he retired and began managing a store.
The Four-legged Lady, The 1920s
At 13 years old, Myrtle Corbin had become a popular sideshow performer on account of her unique birth defect. Corbin had been born with two pairs of pelvises, a condition which was a pointer to the fact that she would have been a conjoined twin. Dubbed the Four-Legged Girl from Texas, Corbin proceeded to get married and have five children, leading a fairly normal life until her death in 1928. Overall, Corbin proved to be just like everyone else. We just wonder if anyone of her descendants had inherited her condition...
The Two-Headed Mexican, The 1990s
When a cyst began to grow on Pasqual Pinon’s head in the early 1990s, the Mexican-born railroad worker decided to exploit it to his benefit – thus, the idea of becoming The Two-Headed Mexican. Pasqual Pinon did not have two heads, however. All he did was to cover his cyst with a wax-made mask which gave it the appearance of a face. After touring and making a significant amount of money off his tumor, Pinon had the growth removed and returned to his normal life.
Koo Koo The Bird Girl, The 1880s
Before she was dubbed Koo Koo, The Bird Girl, she was simply Georgia-born Minnie Woolsey whose early life is not entirely known. Woosely was diagnosed with Seckel Syndrome which resulted in a number of symptoms, including alopecia areata, mental incapacity, as well as being toothless. Before being recruited to join the circus, Woosley was said to have lived in a mental asylum which further worsened her medical conditions. In 1964, the Bird Girl was hit by a vehicle and died due to the injuries she sustained from the accident.
Robyn Hilton, 1974
Keeping aside every moralist argument against the trade, adult entertainment is indeed lucrative - and Robyn Hilton was eager to exploit the genre until she hit a Hollywood jackpot when the snagged the role of Miss Stein on the 1974 comedy, Blazing Saddles. For the Idaho-born Hollywood hopeful, this was her ticket to fame. Surprisingly, after a handful of appearances in a few other ‘70s/‘80s films, and a memorable interview with The Tonight Show’s Johnny Carson, Hilton dropped out of sight; However, this epic moment with the TV host is a gentle reminder of a time when the actress showed promise. Between the wrinkles, hair loss and anti-aging treatment, she certainly doesn't stand a chance any longer
